The convener of Social Justice (SJ) who is based in Oyo State, Segun Seun on behalf of his group has joined other well meaning Nigerians in expressing satisfaction towards the manner at which the Postmaster-General (PMG) of the Federation and CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, Hon. Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju is positively driving the affairs of the establishment.
Segun, a social crusader added that within the short period that Hon. Adepoju assumed office as PMG he has positively turned around the establishment despite the meagre resources made available by the Federal government to run the operations and administration of NIPOST.
According to Segun:
“I am greatly impressed at the transformation NIPOST is currently experiencing under the leadership of Hon. Sunday Adepoju as Postmaster-General and CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service.
“Despite low budgetary allocation from the Federal Government Hon. Sunday Adepoju has substantially turned around NIPOST to the admiration of Nigerians. I can recall that NIPOST was indebted to many partnering airlines who at some point refused to carry NIPOST mails because of accumulated debts, but today it has come to a thing of the past and this can be confirmed from KLM and other airlines.
“NIPOST has also paid damages as a result of penalties emanating from failures to carry mails to their respective destinations in the past years. From my investigation Hon. Sunday Adepoju met over 5 billion debts when he assumed office in October 2022 and the only capital to run the office was just 100 million for last year.
“However, how PMG was able to surmount the financial challenges he met and the ability to record numerous milestones and feats within the shortest possible time in NIPOST have been a huge surprise to a number of people. Today members of staff are praying for him with respect to various welfare packages he succeeded in introducing for them and these have really motivated them and increased their productivity and efficiency.
“Within few months of resumption into office PMG also refurbished NIPOST office at Bourdilion road in Ikoyi, Lagos. I hope Nigerians could recall the sad incident that occured sometime in January this year when a popular actress, Kemi Afolabi took to her Instagram page and made public, the poor state of the post office. Today Hon. Adepoju has completely changed the narrative by giving the facility a total transformation with state-of-the-art equipment.
“NIPOST under his watch has shown greater commitment to favorably rival any organization running postal services in the country. No wonder the ranks and file of NIPOST staff members now call Hon. Adepoju ”The Miracle man of NIPOST” and this can be verified. Hon. Adepoju has repositioned and still repositioning NIPOST in tandem with contemporary international best practices. This further reminds me of Hon. Adepoju’s days in the National Assembly which was known for quality representation, the people of Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State will never forget so quickly and posterity will definitely be kind to him.” Segun stated.
The social crusader further emphasised that Adepoju had the requisite knowledgeable human capital saying what was required to refocus and reposition the NIPOST is a committed leadership which the present Management is willingly, proactively and patriotically providing. He also disclosed that NIPOST is currently reigniting its core mandate of promoting the development of indigenous capacity to meet the needs of Nigerians.
He noted that NIPOST would leave no stone unturned, including seeking legislative amendment if need be, to ensure full compliance with the Nigerian Postal Service Act, which according to him was necessary to fast track the desired growth in the Postal Service sector.
Segun also expressed readiness to partner with NIPOST in documenting and publicising its activities so that Nigerians and other relevant stakeholders can be aware of the transformation going on in NIPOST which is grossly under-reported.
