AHBEAwards according to the organisers, is put together solely, for those who have spent up to 20 years and above in the industry. There are however cases of exception, for those who have equally performed very well as entertainment practitioners and good role model, void of scandalous reputation.
One of the aims of the award, is to use the platform to educate and sensitise young African descents in disapora, so they will know that good things are happening in Africa, in contrast to not so positive narratives about the beautiful and endowed black continent.
Some of the past recipients of the prestigious African Award are: Lenny Juma, Ruth Ndulu Maingi and Raymond Ofula from Kenya, Patronella Diedricks from Lesotho and Ella Mensah from Ghana. Others include Zack Orji, Tade Ogidan, Fred Amata, Yinka Quadri, Mrs Idowu Phillips, Prince Bisi Olatilo, Dele Odule, Yomi Fash Lanso, Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, Gbenga Adeyinka D1st, Okey Bakassi from Nigeria, among others.
AHBEAwards according to the organizers, is not by vote nor nomination, but strictly by a careful selection process of names of entertainers, who have been in the industry for 20 years and above. However it is for those who have mastered their trade, with pure excellence and commitment to their profession. The organizers are not keen on bringing known faces only to their fans in diaspora, but rather working to celebrate stars, either known or unknown, but have contributed immensely to the growth of African entertainment and media industry.
