Because most people are emotionally weak nowdays, almost all manifestations of emotional maturity are rare.
That being said, these are some signs that someone is likely emotionally mature (Note: Just because a person shows some of these signs doesn’t necessarily mean they are mature):
- They are genuine. A mark of true maturity is being true to who you are. Mature people know that it’s no use to pretend to be someone they’re not because at the end of the day they’re only hurting themselves.
- They are clear while expressing themselves. Mature people don’t need to use passive aggressiveness to get something through. They make their statement clear and stand for their rights.
- They are confident, but not arrogant. A mature person is assertive and knows their limits. They are humble and are usually good listeners. But they also believe in themselves and their skills (this last thing is very important).
- They are responsible. You can’t be mature without taking responsibility for your own words and actions. But being responsible also means being a good citizen, a good student and a good proffessional.
- They are open to opinions, but they don’t overvalue them. This one is kinda hard for most people. It’s important to listen to others, but it’s also important that you don’t get carried away by others’ opinions. It’s up to YOU and only YOU to give them the importance you want. After all, they’re just voices.
- They don’t let themselves down easily. An emotionally strong person knows that life isn’t easy. They know you have to work hard towards your goals or you simply won’t get there.
- They are good losers. A truly mature person knows there’s always another chance. You’ll miss the opportunity to succeed if you don’t try again.
- They ignore evil. The world is an evil place. And jealous individuals are everywhere wanting to see us fall. But mature people don’t care and still go for their prize.
If you noticed, most of these traits are also carried by successful people. You simply cannot succeed in life with a weak emotion.
