Lovers of the late legendary Fuji musician, Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, have announced plans for this year’s edition of the annual celebrations in his honour.
Tagged ‘Barryfest 2024’, the fans called Ayinde Barrister’s Fans Club, would be hosting the events between Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the Ilaji Hotel and Resort, Akanran, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
According to a statement released by the secretary of BarryFest 2024, Asiwaju Ademola Adesingbin, the events would be hosted to commemorate the birthday of Mr. Fuji, as Ayinde was fondly referred to, which falls on February 10 when the music legend would have clocked 76.
Adesingbin wrote; “On Day One, we are going to observe a special birthday Jumat Prayer at the Mufutau Lanihun Mosque, Ibadan. Later, we are going to unveil a Cenotaph in memory of Barrister at Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and wrap it up with a Gala Nite.”
The statement said that, on Day Two, February 10, the group will host invited personalities such as Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Yeye Adunola Oredolapo Adesuyi, while Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, will deliver a paper as guest speaker.
After the lecture, Adesingbin said, a premiere of the first episode of Fuji documentary titled ‘Mr Fuji Barry Wonder’ put together by the US-based Professor Saheed Aderinto will be held; followed by presentation of awards and live performances by Fuji musicians.
Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister died in a London hospital on December 16, 2010.
