President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he would not make the mistake of attempting a third term in office.
The President spoke at the just concluded National Executive Council meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.
Apart from age, the president said he was limited by the two terms stated in the constitution.
“I’m not going to make the mistake of attempting a third term. Besides the age, the constitution makes provision for only two terms,” he said.
The President also declared full support for the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in the Edo state crisis, making it clear that the Chairman has his backing in whatever he chooses to do.
The President said “the crisis in Edo will soon be brought under control. I trust the National Chairman to do what he must to keep Edo under APC. We have trusted him with other states and he delivered 100%. Why not Edo, his own state? I trust Adams and he has my support in whatever he chooses to do in Edo.”
The President’s declaration echoes that of the other leaders and stakeholders of the party who were said to have expressed confidence in the Oshiomhole, despite lobbying by the camp of Edo State governor who is presently engaging him in power tussle.
The governor’s camp had reportedly earlier sent all senior members of the state’s administration to Abuja ahead of the NEC meeting allegedly in a bid to lobby other party members and the presidency to join their bid to oust the National Chairman.
With the President backing Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, it is clear that the Chairman has prevailed.
