The federal high court in Lagos is set to hear the no-case submissions in the fraud case against the CEO of Ebony Films & Records, Seun Egbegbe, who has been in custody since 2017.
The hearing is slated for Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
Egbegbe, a Lagos socialite, was arrested with four others over allegation that he defrauded about 30 bureau de change (BDC) operators in Lagos in both local and foreign currencies between 2015 and 2017.
According to the Lagos police command, Seun allegedly duped his victims to the total sums of N39,098,100, $90,000 and £12,550.
He was later charged with 40 counts of advance fee fraud. Those named with Egbegbe in the case include Oyekan Ayomide, Lawal Kareem, Olalekan Yusuf and Muyideen Shoyombo.
Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, the presiding judge, had ruled that he should be granted bail of N5 million with two sureties in the sum of N2.5 million.
However, he was unable to meet the N5 million bail granted him by the court.
It is understood that following the closure of the prosecution’s case, all other defendants, except Egbegbe, who had difficulty paying his legal fees at the time, filed no-case submissions.
According to report, the defendant will now pray the court to dismiss the charges against Egbegbe on the ground that Innocent Anyigor, the prosecutor, failed to establish a prima facie case or prove the claims.
