Head of Corporate affairs at United Bank of Africa (UBA), Mr. Nasir Rahmon, has advised journalists to focus more on responsibility and credibility while discharging their duties.
Ramon stated this at the 2022 edition of the annual lecture of Celebrity Journal Publishers Association of Nigeria (CJPAN) in Lagos.
Rahmon, who was a guest speaker at the event themed ‘The Role of New Media in 21st Century Banking Industry’, which held on Thursday, 28th July, 2022 at LCCI Conference Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, used the opportunity of the occasion to encourage participants and journalists across Nigeria to always ensure that the stories they report are rooted in credible sources.
While applauding CJPAN for the initiative, Ramon stressed that “there is no sin in reporting a story but let it be based on facts.”
Continuing, the bank public relations guru said “don’t let us get to the point where corporate organizations would say do your worst. Therefore, I implore you to ensure you verify the sources of any news you want to report, because, if it gets to that point, it will affect you and I.”
Another speaker at the event, Dr. Akin Olaniyan a PR and media marketing communications practitioner, urged journalists to learn more about digital marketing in order to understand other ways of improving on their media enterprise as well as improve their earnings.
On his part, Mr. Kayode Akinyemi, another media and marketing communications expert who was represented at the event by Mr. Moses Obajemu, a top public relations manager, affirmed that authenticity is the keyword in journalism. He however, urged journalists to ensure that what they are reporting online are authenticated and balanced.
In his note of appreciation, Mr. Joshua Uloko, the president of CJPAN, thanked stakeholders, members and sponsors for their constant support towards the association and successful hosting of this year’s event.
Uloko noted that the association has the mandate to always do what it considers as the best given any situation and will continue to discharge its duties responsibly and creditably. He further urged corporate organizations not to relent in supporting the association in its bid to build a more enduring media landscape in Nigeria.
