Group Calls for Peace in Kogi, Bayelsa Guber Elections

A call has gone to the politicians and other stakeholders in Kogi and Bayelsa states to ensure the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the two states are violence free and the process is credible.

This advise was given on Sunday in a statement issued in Lokoja on Sunday by the National President of Team Nigeria For Change (TNC), Chief Bestman Nze-Jumbo.

Nze-Jumbo who disclosed that he was in the state to see things for himself on behalf of TNC and monitor political activities of the parties as well as the umpires, explained that so far, the process is still peaceful.

He stated: “I am appealing that the peaceful process must be maintained till the election as his group detests violence in all ramifications.”

He also maintained that the preparedness of the umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is commendable as well as the security agencies in the state, but urged the political class not to truncate the peaceful ambiance of the state in the name of election.

According to him, “I am in Lokoja to access the situation here, especially security situation as it is about two weeks to the gubernatorial contests in Kogi and Bayelsa states. With what I have seen here, there is peace and violence free campaign so far, but on behalf of Team Nigeria for change, I wish to appeal to the political class not to truncate the existing peaceful atmosphere in the states as we approach elections in the two states. We need peace in every part of Nigeria”

He further disclosed that his group is concerned about deepening of democracy in Nigeria and on that, his group will be deploying election observers for the election to ensure “we have on the spot assessment of the situation ” he said

He, however, promised that his group will collaborate with others to continuously engage stakeholders positively, so that there will be peaceful elections in the two states.
